Opened in 1891 as "Connah's Quay & Shotton" by the Wrexham, Mold and Connah's Quay Railway, on what is now the Wrexham to Bidston line. The name was changed to "Shotton High Level" at the end of 1952. Officially the "High Level" was dropped in 1968, but reinstated in 1999, and it helps to distinguish between this and the platforms at Image View north east towards Hawarden Bridge and Bidston.
