Waterproofing the Ground

These workmen are laying sheets of fleece-like material on top of stone drains. The sheets are not quite waterproof, and will allow water to seep through, but they will prevent the stone drain becoming clogged with soil. The soil will be laid on polythene on top of the fleece.
