The A259 Brighton Road passes the former Half Brick public house (built in 1874) here at the junction with Ham Road.I have heard that the pub "management" group which owned the thriving real ale, food, and musical venue, pushed its rents and stock prices so high that the landlord decided enough was enough. No one else would accept their greedy terms so it was sold. Another good pub was lost to the profiteer venture capital culture. It has now been extended and modernised as flats, including raising the floor level of the ground floor as a concession to rising sea levels (!). This statement appeared in the Worthing Herald, "The Half Brick ceased trading in April, 2009, because of lack of custom from local residents." Rubbish. It was a popular well attended pub.
