The Yealde Hall in the Market Place dates back to about the fifteenth century, where it was used as an early form of Guildhall. The Hall has undergone a number of alterations and renovations over the centuries, and until very recently was home to the town's tourist information office. It now resumes life as a museum. The plasterwork above the steps is an early version of Chippenham's coat of arms and motto. The date of 1776 refers to when work was carried out.
