Burton's in Market Place, showing the way it keeps up to date. Montague Burton borrowed a matter of £100 to found the company in 1903; by the mid-fifties it grew to a massive presence on the High Streets all over Britain with over four hundred branches. Burton's were at the forefront of the military demands of the Great War, producing about a quarter of all the uniforms. Montague went on to be involved with more humanitarian issues and in 1934 was knighted and appointed a Justice of the Peace. Not sure you could still buy "A five guinea suit for 55 shillings" but the stores will give the discerning customer plenty of choice. See Image] for a closer look at the old logo.
