The Hull Advertiser of 13 September 1822 advertises these houses on a new plan 'uniting the advantages of Town and Country'. This was a reference to having front gardens, a novel idea that soon became standard practice in houses of respectability. Today, these houses on the south side of Caroline Place are surrounded by businesses, and the Freetown Way inner ring-road is immediately to their rear.
