Unused platform at Margate station

At the west end of Margate station, this small fenced off yard that once gave access to a bay platform (whose canopy is visible in the centre of the picture) appears to have been unused for quite some time. The platform looks like it would have been used as a parcels bay, but I don't actually know what its purpose was.
