Boxing Day Barrel Race, Grantchester

This annual event, accompanied by much revelry, draws a large crowd of spectators. It consists of a number of races between local Grantchester teams, and also the County Championships, with teams from as far afield as Impington and Hauxton. To the casual observer, the rules of the race seem somewhat opaque, even non-existent. The origins of the event are thought to date as far back as the 1960s.
