This station was called Grimes Hill & Wythall until 1974. The railway here is known as the North Warwickshire Line which reflects the company that built it - the Birmingham & North Warwickshire Railway - and is a bit of a misnomer in that it goes nowhere near the area usually considered to be north Warwickshire. It was a latecomer to the railway network, opening in 1907 to give the Great Western Railway a more direct route from Birmingham to Stratford on Avon and the West Country. Through passenger services beyond Stratford ceased in 1967 and the line itself was threatened with closure for many years.
