The Lakes was opened in 1936 as a halt mainly to attract leisure traffic making weekend visits to the nearby Earlswood Lakes (actually reservoirs built to supply the Stratford Canal). Surprisingly it has survived into the modern era, although trains now call by request and the short platforms mean that access to trains is via the front carriage only.
