Taken after a working party under the command of my girlfriend (who was at the time the lapwing project officer for the RSPB in South Wales) had cleared some of the scrub from this patch of waste ground on an industrial estate in Rassau near Tredegar. Lapwings like to nest on open field sites with no scrub or bushes, which can allow predators to sneak up on them. The great tragedy of lapwings in a place like South Wales is that they basically like to nest on development land; I believe this site has now been built on but I might be wrong.
