Prior to being converted into the porcelain factory formerly known as the “Derby China Clay Works", these premises were part of the Union Workhouse (1839-79). Once the porcelain manufacturer had taken the premises over, Ladygrove Cottages – seen in the shade - were built for some of its employees. Osmaston Road (the A541) is situated beyond the white cars in the distance, at a lower level than this cul-de-sac.
