A villa built in 1812 for William Bailie, Writer to the Signet. Its next owner was George Ross, an advocate, who lived here from 1818 to 1860. It is part of the Canaan Campus of the Astley Ainslie Hospital which opened in 1923 as a convalescent home attached to the Royal Infirmary in Lauriston. The Hospital expanded over the years, acquiring several villas in the Canaan area. The house is now an admin block for the Hospital. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astley_Ainslie_Hospital
