A house of character, in fact three in all, bought and combined by the English-born Victorian painter of Scottish landscapes Sam Bough. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Bough An earlier occupant of the middle house was David Ramsay Hay, who was responsible for the interior decoration of Holyrood Palace in the reign of George IV and assisted Walter Scott with designs at Abbotsford.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ramsay_Hay A later occupant was the 20thC architect Sir Basil Spence.
