A fine cairn for such a relatively lowly summit. According to Wainwright, who described a walk to the top in his 'Outlying Fells of Lakeland', the cairn was built in 1803 by the Rev. T. Williamson in memory of his father Thomas who used to climb up to High Knott every day before breakfast. Thomas lived at The Heights, the farm nearby so it wasn't that big a climb .....
