As I approached the side of the tarn the swan seemed more and more to be frozen into the ice. Unfortunately, the ice would not bear my weight so there was no way I could approach the trapped bird. In retrospect this probably wasn't a bad thing since I could well have ended up in the icy water myself. What a silly sausage I would have been then!
