This site, bounded by Oxford Road, Charles Street, Brancaster Street and the River Medlock, was home to the regional headquarters of BBC North West for more than 35 years. New Broadcasting House was built between 1971 and 1975; it was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976. The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and, less than a year later, is now just a pile of rubble.
