The story of Peak Forest and its church is too long to explain here. Suffice to say that at one time Peak Forest was a place akin to Gretna Green for marriages of non-residents. King Charles I was beheaded, or martyred and the church is dedicated to him, the original church having been built during the Commonwealth period after the Civil War, I think!
