The school here was opened in 1877 as the "Star Lane Board" school, and has had a variety of names since. It is currently the "Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary Academy". The governors have ensured it is at the forefront of educational advances, having been the first Grant Maintained primary school in 1995, then becoming a CofE school by the turn of the century, and was later the first Primary Academy in the country. The school has its own web site at http://www.bourneabbey.lincs.sch.uk/ The premises have steadily enlarged over the years. The road here kinks alarmingly, because there was once a railway viaduct here. The Bourne to Sleaford railway line crossed the road where the zig-zag lines are painted. The green bank on the left and the playground to the right of the school buildings were once the railway line.
