View westward, towards Wivenhoe and Colchester: ex-GER Colchester - Clacton/Walton line. The lines from Colchester were electrified from 16/3/59, as a trial of the 25kV AC overhead system adopted as standard by BR in 1956, although through electric services to London (Liverpool Street) were not introduced until 17/6/63 after the main line between Chelmsford and Colchester had been converted from the original 1,500V DC system, later 6.25 kV AC, employed between London and Chelmsford.
