Just out of shot to the right, a Little Chef: a combination known well by long-distance drivers. The motel and restaurant are off the northbound carriageway some way from Scotch Corner interchange: access to them from the north involves one leaving the A1 at Scotch Corner, heading down the Richmond road and then cutting across country on Scurragh Lane, which brings one out on the northbound carriageway a few yards to the south of them. Update, 2015: Image indicates that the Scurragh Lane junction is being closed as the A1 is upgraded to motorway. Joining the high-speed traffic from the lane was a hair-raising experience, particularly at night, and one that is probably best done away with.
