Dove Lake House

This was built for David Beatham, a farmer at Etonbury, on land that had been quarried for clay for Arlesey white bricks. It was designed by Graham Aplin and Tim Drewitt “by making little cardboard boxes and piling them up on each other". The huge white chimney that rises from the centre also holds the five-storey lift shaft. The building projects over a lake, supported by piles. It was inspired by Falling Water in Pennsylvania, one of the most admired buildings in the world, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright . Unfortunately the Beathams were unable to complete the house, and it was put on the market in its unfinished state for £2.4 million.
