This is between locks 6 and 7, at a time when navigation was discouraged, although the actual locks were in quite good condition. This pound has either leaked away, or possibly has been deliberately drained. The latter possibility may have something to do with the condition of the side pound, which is to the right of the towpath shrouded in bushes - the ports under the path may be seen, well above the lowered water level. The side pound is on the steep side of the valley above the nearby railway line, so may have been thought dangerous. It is now reportedly disused, presumably blanked off from the canal (if the report is correct), but still holding water. The other point of interest is the cottage just showing on the left. This was Glen Cottage, and was demolished not long after this view. A painting dated to May 1963 shows it half demolished.
