In 2006 Islington Council commissioned a new war memorial from John Maine RA to replace the old one which was by then in a poor condition. The new design is in the form of a granite ring, representing a wreath. A bus heading north on Upper Street can be seen through the ring. Compare this with the old memorial: Image, photographed two years earlier.
