Kirkgunzeon Church and the McWhire Monument

The churchyard is dominated by the tall, red sandstone memorial to Robert McWhire. The inscription says that he was a merchant from Halifax, Yorkshire who died in Dumfries on 4th November 1831. It is unclear what connection he had with Kirkgunzeon.
