Still a maintenance depot, although some of the wharfage and dry dock out of view to the left have been leased out to private enterprise. The barge is loaded with stop planks for locks, which for a broad navigation have to be substantial pieces of wood. Each is painted with its lock number and top or bottom. Although nominally the same, small differences cannot be ignored in fitting the planks to the lock slots. Brand new planks have been made for lock 10, probably on the Stort as a visible inscription is '10BST'.
