RAF Metheringham opened in October 1943 under No 5 Group Bomber Command. On 11 November No 106 Squadron arrived from Syerston with Lancaster IIIs and was to be the only operational unit based there during hostilities. On 18 February 1946 No 106 Squadron disbanded and RAF Metheringham was closed to flying, and although remaining in a fairly complete state during most of the 1950s, the hangars and most domestic site buildings had been demolished by the end of the next decade. In 1961-62 Metheringham was sold and returned to agriculture.
