The spelling 'Bircle' figures on some sign posts in this part of the village, but it is not recognised by OS so will not be used by me. Birtle is not a village you pass through. You have to want to get here, or you won't. The Church Inn, in spite of its somewhat obscure location, is popular with those 'in the know', and has a good reputation for its fine food, so even on this very wet Thursday morning there were quite a few cars parked here.
