This has quite medieval look about it until you see the crazy-paving effect cement render. This is where the Aswell spring rose. It flowed through the Gatherums and supplied the open-air swimming pool and Winch's brewery in Church St. The spring has now been culverted, but you can still hear it under a nearby inspection cover. This was a rather unprepossessing entrance to Louth's Gatherums park, recently refurbished by the "Gatherums and Springside Regeneration Group". However in 2014 they tackled this area also.
