New Bridge it may be, but the 1887 Edition of the large scale Ordnance Survey mapping shows a crossing of the canal here, and by the time that the 1905 Edition was published it already had its current day moniker. Today it provides vehicle access off Stockton Road to various canal facilities on the south side of the canal.
