ON's dugouts

Image: © Michael Trolove Taken: 6 Oct 2012

Dugouts for football clubs first appeared in the 1920's at Pittodrie the home of Aberdeen FC (Wikipedia) Not much more than glorified shelters they now have defined areas in front of them known as the Technical Area. Football followers will have seen Messrs Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger and others being carefully marshalled by the fourth official in the little box delineated by a white line.
