Before the Second World War this street used to be famous for being an entertainment strip and it still is but it is only a shadow of its former self. Bombing during the war and subsequent redevelopment has replaced many of the older buildings with flats, houses and retail premises. This photo was taken from The Octagon and shows the part of the southern side of the street leading up to the Palace Theatre which had a new lease of life as a dance venue in recent years but has now closed again.
