Lady Wulfruna, or Wulfrun to use the correct Anglo-Saxon pronunciation of her name is said to provide the origin of Wolverhampton's name. She is believed to have been the grand-daughter of King Ethelred I and Queen Aethelflaed (daughter of King Alfred the Great). This statue of her, sculpted by Sir Charles Wheeler, is on the steps at the west end of St. Peter's Church in 1425.
