The Battle of Dunaverty was a battle and siege of Dunaverty Castle, Kintyre, Scotland in 1647. The battle and siege was fought between the Covenanter army under the command of General David Leslie and 200-300 Highland troops under the command of Archibald Og of Sanda. The inscription reads: "This enclosure was erected by the Rev. Douglas Macdonald, XIIth Laird of Sanda, in 1846 to mark the spot where his ancestors Archibald Mhor and Archibald Oig, father and son, were shot and buried after the battle of Dunaverty in 1647.
