A southbound Northern Rail service train leaves Adlington Station towards Macclesfield and Stoke. The train is an ex-British Rail Class 323 electric multiple unit (EMU) Forty-three of these 3-car units were built for inner-suburban services around Birmingham and Manchester. These trains were the last vehicles to be built by the struggling manufacturer Hunslet TPL before it collapsed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_323 ). They were amongst the last trains constructed in the UK prior to rail privatisation.
