Detail of a painting in the Council Chamber of Leith Town Hall. The King is seen being welcomed by dignitaries led by the Duke of Buccleuch as he steps onto the Shore. The building in the background with flags flying is Custom House on the opposite bank of the Water of Leith. This was the first occasion when the Royal Company of Archers provided the Sovereign's Body Guard in Scotland. Some of its members can be seen lined up on parade. See also Image and Image
