A view towards Craiglockhart Hill from above Midmar Avenue. The spire of Morningside Parish Church in Cluny Gardens can be seen on the right. It was here, in 1994, that the funeral service was held for the Labour Party leader, John Smith, who died suddenly from a heart attack. The service was attended by some 900 mourners, including all the leading lights of British politics at the time. An estimated 3,000 people lined the streets to pay their last respects
