Looking east in the direction of the jetty. Beg means the smaller and nearby, to the south of this island is the lesser known Lusty More Island, in which the middle word means "the bigger". If the water level drops in Lough Erne, then the shore lines increase and the difference between these two islands is not so obvious. Beg and More are sometimes applied to other features like loughs. For example there is a smaller sized lough to the north of Lough Neagh called Lough Beg (although there is no adjoining Lough More, it is actually Lough Neagh)
