Long Green is a huge area of common land, one of a number of open spaces in Wortham and Burgate. The common has many varied habitats and is grazed by horses and sheep. Parts are overgrown and now covered with scrub vegetation, which provides nesting places for birds. The common is of great botanical interest with many species of wild flowers and there are several ponds and a small moat. Properties in this part of the village are found at the edge of the common, many reached over unmade tracks.
