On the approach from the village of St Nicholas to the west, this huge megalith dominates the landscape. Excavations in this area have revealed the remains of Neolithic mud huts, possibly hunters' shelters. The area, bleak at the best of times and boggy in the winter, is still a haunt of wildfowl.
