Built 1938 by Robert Bullivant. It has, writes Pevsner, "the Dudok-influenced decorative brickwork and inflated curved forms typical of this chain" (e.g. Image]). Grade II listed. It was subdivided into three in 1974, before the advent of a large multi-screen cinema out of town rang the death knell in 1997. However, it has now been restored and is branded as the Athena venue for all manner of events. Willem Dudok was a Dutch modernist architect.
