Hebden Beck drains an area of moorland around Yarnbury, with little water beyond the point where the Duke's New Road crosses the valley. Beyond here the valley is usually dry as far as Mossdale Scar [SE0169] where Mossdale Beck disappears into limestone. Strangely the water from here never reappears in Hebden Beck, but returns to the surface several miles away at Black Keld [SD9770].
