Cottages at Cessford

The hamlet's name apparently derives from the Gaelic for "the wattled causeway over the ford" (Wikipedia). Presumably this was a ford over the Cessford Burn, whose valley runs in front of the cottages (and is most evident on the right of the picture). The road, carrying St Cuthbert's Way, now crosses the burn and valley by a substantial causeway.
