J.S.Fry, the chocolate manufacturing company, once had their head office on this corner site. However, this art deco cinema with its cream faiance-tiled facade has occupied the plot since 1938. This is the original rotunda corner entrance at the junction of Union Street and Broadmead although the entrances to its three screens are now on Union Street. It originally had a seating capacity of 1,945; 1,051 in the stalls and 894 in the circle but it was converted into a triple screen cinema in 1974. The premises were reconfigured again in 1983 and the former stalls area converted into shop premises with a new three-screen cinema being opened in the former circle area.
