The upgraded plaza costing £270,000 was officially opened on the 17th of July 2012 by the former Marillion frontman Fish (Derek Dick) whose first gig was in the town in 1980. Lyrics from the group’s best-known song Kayleigh have been inscribed on paving stones in the refurbished square and parts of the song are a reference to his time in Galashiels.
