In 1936, George Orwell visited Sheffield when researching "The Road to Wigan Pier". This is what he said of The River Don - "the shallow river that runs through the town is-usually bright yellow with some chemical or other". Could he have imagined that one day the industrial pollution would have largely vanished and there'd be brown trout to fish once again?
