Devonport Dockyard - capstan engine

A duplex capstan engine built c1904 and used in the dockyard. It was used on steam originally but after WWII was converted to copmressed air operation. There is a 'hard hat' diving suit alongside. I think this was on the camera's built in flash (Canon EOS 50E). The location of this building is a bit of a guess. There is also a hangman's cell in this complex. Allegedly 141 French prisoners of war were execyted here and it is home to the country's only workable gallows. This part of the dockyard is no longer on the public tours but a new heritage area is apparently being developed.
