This recreated village shop, known locally as Thomas Shop dates originally from 1805 and was a very important hub and boon to the local rural economy in this area until it ceased trading and closed in 1957. The vintage contents were then dispersed far and wide, with many items going to the National Museum of Wales in St. Fagans near Cardiff. The shop we see today was painstakingly recreated by new owners using local knowledge, old residents, old pictures and photos and surviving members of the Thomas family. The Thomas' shop is a grocery store on one side and a drapery store on the other and houses items that are suitable to the period that the business traded in. The Tea Room is open within the 17th century house and provides light refreshments including cream teas with scones straight from the oven, an assortment of cakes, Bara Brith, Simnel Cake etc. Lovely.
