Neozephyrus quercus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_Hairstreak are really quite difficult to spot; they live almost their entire lives high up in oak trees. You need to stand by a tree and wait for one to flit to another leaf in order to see one. Once settled they are practically invisible. This example was living on an oak in Image; this is an SSSI managed by the Friends of Tiptree Heath and the Essex Wildlife Trust https://www.essexwt.org.uk/nature-reserves/tiptree-heath
