The pub was originally the Railway Inn, but renamed after the knot that appeared in the crest of the North Staffordshire Railway, opened in 1849. Before 1849 there may have been a pub called the Hope and Anchor here. Rushton station closed to passengers in 1960, and the line closed for freight in 1964. It's now a private house. A frequent complaint for Geographers is that the subject is not in the same square from which the photograph was taken. The subject here is the Knot Inn which is in!
